Best in Business Awards: Society of American Business
Writers and Editors gives awards for breaking news and
enterprise journalism to daily newspapers, business weeklies,
wire services and online sites.
Clarion
Awards: General awards that cover everything, from
magazines and newspapers to TV and online. From the Association
for Women in Communications.
Digital
Edge Awards: New media awards from the Newspaper
Association of America�s New Media Federation.
Dorothea Lange-Paul Taylor Prize: A $10,000 award given
annually by the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke
University to encourage collaboration between documentary
writers and photographers.
DuPont Awards:
Administered by Columbia University and probably the most
prestigious awards in broadcast journalism.
Eppys: Editor & Publisher's awards for the best
newspaper interactive services and projects.
George Foster Peabody
Awards: For outstanding achievement in broadcasting and
cable, though open to entries produced for alternative
distribution, including educational, home-video release and
CD-ROM.
Heywood
Broun Award: A social justice award, intended to encourage
and recognize individual journalistic achievement by members of
the working media, particularly if it helps right a wrong or
correct an injustice.
Hillman Awards: Presented by UNITE (Union of Needletrades,
Industrial and Textile Employees) to
journalists, writers and public
figures who pursue social justice and public policy for the
common good. Deadline: January.
International
Consortium of Investigative Journalists Prize: A $20,000
prize open to any professional journalist or team of journalists
of any nationality working in any medium. The investigation -
either a single work or a single-subject series - must involve
reporting in at least two countries on a topic of world
significance.
Livingston Awards:
$10,000 for excellence by professionals under the age of 35 in
broadcast, print or online journalism. Deadline: February.
Lorenzo
Natali Prize for Journalism: The Lorenzo Natali Prize is
awarded to print and/or on-line journalists who have
demonstrated a striking insight and particular dedication to the
reporting of human rights issues within the context of the
development process.
National
Headliner Awards: Individual awards of $1,500 to four
Headliner Award winners whose work is recognized by the judges
as "Best of Show" in the Print, Television, Radio and
Photography.
ONA Online Journalism Awards: The most extensive online
journalism awards, presented each fall by the Online News
Association and the
Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Deadline:
June/July.
Payne Awards for Ethics in Journalism: To honor "the
journalist of integrity and character who reports with insight
and clarity in the face of political or economic pressures." For
students, professionals and news organizations.
Polk
Awards: Long Island University awards for investigative
journalism. Categories vary each year but everything is
considered. Deadline: January.
Pulitzer Prizes:
The big awards for newspapers, literature, drama, music.
RTNDA Edward R. Murrow Awards:
Broadcast awards from the Radio and
Television News Directors Association; includes categories for outstanding
Web sites.
Ruben Salazar Journalism Awards:
Presented by the California Chicano New Media Association for
work published or broadcast in California that contributes to a
better understanding of Latinos in the United States.
SND.ies: Society of News Design's
monthly Best of New Media Design Competition.
Scripps Howard
Foundation National Journalism Awards:
Recognize excellence in 18 categories, including editorial
writing, human interest writing, environmental and public
service reporting, business/economics reporting, commentary,
photojournalism, electronic journalism, college cartooning,
Internet reporting and editorial cartooning.
SPJ Mark of Excellence:
The Society of Professional Journalists' awards for the best in
student journalism.
